2012-13 & 2013-14 calendars now available

At its regularly scheduled meeting January 26, 2012, the Littleton Public Schools Board of Education approved school year calendars for the next two school years.  Both calendars continue to reflect the Board's calendar values, which have been shaped by the community over time.

Kindergarten Registration for 12-13 school year is Jan. 30 & 31

Littleton Public Schools welcomes the Class of 2025!

All Littleton Public Schools elementary schools will be hosting Kindergarten Registration on Monday, January 30 and Tuesday, January 31, 2012 during regular school hours.

All kindergarten programs are located in elementary schools and are very much a part of the school culture.  

Out-of-district students are welcome!  “When my oldest son was ready to start kindergarten, I was looking for a school that provided a sense of community, where my children would feel comfortable and my family could be a part of the whole.  I visited LPS elementary schools, and I knew then that LPS was the right place for my children."

LPS security director featured in national security magazine

Guy Grace, the director of security and emergency planning for Littleton Public Schools, was featured in the December, 2011 issue of the national magazine, Security: Solutions for Enterprise Security Leaders.  Grace and other security experts across multiple business and government sectors shared their predictions for the security industry in an article entitled, “Security in 2012: When Better Isn’t Good Enough.”

Meal prices to go up March 1; first increase in 7 years

The Littleton Public Schools Food Service program must increase the price of breakfast and lunch due to federal pricing requirements.  The price of breakfast will increase 5 cents, and the price of lunch will increase 15 cents, effective March 1, 2012.  This is the first price increase in seven years despite rising grocery prices.

LPS schools earn 14 awards of excellence from the CDE

On December 12, 2011, the Colorado Department of Education announced schools that have received various awards for their excellence in student achievement:

East Elementary School was named a 2011 Center of Excellence.

The following schools were awarded the 2011 John Irwin Award:

  • Littleton Preparatory (middle)

LPS is Accredited with Distinction for 2nd time

For the second straight year, Littleton Public Schools has received the highest district accreditation rating--Accredited with Distinction--from the Colorado Department of Education. LPS remains the only district in the Denver metro area to be Accredited with Distinction. LPS earned this rating based on its performance across key indicators that best reflect student academic success: academic achievement, academic growth, reducing academic growth gaps, and postsecondary and workforce readiness.

Newton teacher named Colorado Science Teacher of the Year

Charles Bottinelli was recently named the Colorado Middle School Science Teacher of the Year by the Colorado Association of Science Teachers. Bottinelli has taught science at Newton Middle School for the past 17 years and has been teaching science for nearly 50 years.  Bottinelli is widely known in the Newton community for his commitment to advancing student knowledge through implementation of technology into his curriculum, rigorous expectations, hands on science lab experience and practical use of everyday science for his students.

Littleton Public Schools currently accepting open enrollment

Award-winning Littleton Public Schools is currently accepting open enrollment applications for all of its schools grades kindergarten through 12. LPS offers many educational choices to resident and nonresident parents and students. More than 18 percent of LPS students are enrolled from outside the school district boundaries and clearly see LPS as the preferred choice. This is the highest percentage of any school district along the Front Range of similar size or larger.

LPS earns international Meritorious Budget Award

Littleton Public Schools has been recently awarded the Meritorious Budget Award for Excellence in Budget Presentation by the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO).

Heritage and Littleton High seniors earn perfect scores on the SAT

Heritage senior Bennett McIntosh earned a score of 1600 on the SAT:  a perfect score of 800 in critical reading and a perfect score of 800 in math! In addition, from Littleton High School, two students earned a perfect 800 on the writing portion of the SAT, and another Littleton High student earned a perfect 800 on the science portion. More than 1.5 million students from across the nation take the SAT each year. Congratulations!
 

33 LPS seniors recognized by National Merit Scholarship Corporation

Thirty-three Littleton Public Schools seniors have been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Arapahoe senior earns perfect score on ACT

Congratulations to Arapahoe High School senior Bridget Louis who earned a perfect score of 36 on the 2011 American College Test (ACT)!  Louis is one of only 11 students to do so this year in Colorado.

LPS continues to post strong scores on CSAP tests

LPS students continue to outscore the state average by as much as 23 percentage points proficient and advanced in all grades and all subjects tested on CSAP.

 Top 10 Reasons Why Littleton Public Schools is the Best Place To Be:

1.  All three LPS high schools — Littleton, Heritage, and Arapahoe — are nationally recognized and award winning.  They have been featured in Newsweek Magazine’s Top High Schools in America and 5280 Magazine’s "Top High Schools in Denver."
 
2.  LPS high schools have the highest graduation rate and the lowest dropout rate of any high schools in the Denver metro area.
 
3.  90 percent of LPS graduates are college-bound. LPS seniors earn $25 million annually in college scholarships.  

4.  LPS consistently has a high number of National Merit Scholars, Boettcher Scholars, and Presidential Scholars. Each year, students earn appointments to U.S. military academies. 

5. Such success in high school is possible because of the strong academic foundation built over time in LPS elementary and middle schools!
